As a software developer working in the Cloud Operations under the IBM Watson IoT (Internet of Things), I need to learn Kubernetes, among other things. But first, I have to know what Docker containers are. No other source defines Docker containers much better than the Docker documentation. According to this doc, a Docker container is a ”standardized unit of software that packages up code and all its dependencies so the application runs quickly and reliably from one computing environment to another“.
I would have had a hard time understand the concept of Docker containers were it not for the O’Reilly video on Docker, entitled ”Effective DevOps and Development with Docker” by James Quigley. Midway through this resource, I was able to work through the IBM Developer Skills Network’s introductory course on Docker, ”Docker Essentials: A Developer Introduction”. Completion of this course gave me my first badge on Acclaim.
Now I can proceed to learn Kubernetes!
